Having visited Shobak a few years earlier, and looking out for something different for breakfast one morning, my friends and I landed up at the popular Astra Center branch a few days ago. Compared to our last visit which had been just when they had just opened up, Shobak now appeared to be a bustling and popular joint, particularly among the college-going crowd.
Service there is very quick! The menu is extensive yet simple, as the focus of Shobak is that it is fast food. We started off with cups of hot, inviting coffee (SR 13) to kick off the morning, and our pies arrived soon enough. We quickly dug into our different pies- Tostada (SR 21), Musroom & Spinach (SR 21), and Fajita (SR24) in brown bread. The pies were refreshingly different- a perfect blend of the traditional ‘mana’eesh’ prepared with more international, contemporary fillings. Served fresh and hot on smart wooden chopping boards, they looked as appealing as they were to taste, and we were able to wipe them off in no time among the four of us there. To finish off our meal, we ordered their popular Nutella pie (SR 16). However, with the extra dusting of sugar over the pie, this seemed to be too sweet for my taste; but it probably wouldn’t matter to a true Nutella lover!
The lively atmosphere and the friendly, accommodating staff made our quick morning rendezvous a memorable visit, highly recommended if you want to catch up with friends over a quick meal!
The Leylaty group is the favorite of the gourmands, particularly when there is a special occasion, or just the need to indulge oneself. One of their beloved restaurants for the last fifteen years has been Multaqa- Timeless Dining, their iconic seafood buffet restaurant, which has recently undergone a renovation and uplift in the menu.
We landed up there for lunch last weekend, during their soft opening phase, and had a memorable afternoon indeed. Upon being seated, we were presented with a welcome drink, and given a run-through of the new buffet style. Essentially a seafood restaurant, Multaqa now incorporates non-seafood items in their lunch menu to appeal to customers of varied tastes. To start with, the salads and cold starters were absolutely delightful- from quinoa tabbouleh, paratha fattoush, pizza wraps to Mexican salad and a selection of sushi and sashimi, among many others, the first course set the bar for a fusion culinary experience par excellence. The main course was equally appealing, with a mandi-style roast chicken, salmon tikka with black rice, lamb escalope and some other exotic and mouth-watering delights. There was also a live pasta station and an egg station (should you be in the mood for a brunch). What particularly appealed to us were their hot dog and burger stations, aimed at younger children.
As for the desserts, we were spoilt for choice! From an assortment of puddings, pastries, cakes, baklava, doughnuts, ice creams- it’s a delight for those guilty of sporting a sweet tooth! We finished off our meals with an exquisite selection of herbal and floral teas brought together from around the world- the perfect way to make the most of the afternoon.
As always, Leylaty never shies away from giving their customers a most memorable meal. Be it their high-quality ingredients, their superior service, their attention to detail- it is hard to find anything wanting. The subtle vintage décor, with portraits of Clark Gable, Marlon Brando, Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman and so many more, added the perfect touch of grace and elegance into the ambience.
The lunch buffet is priced at SAR 260 per head (including welcome drink and still water) and SAR 130 for children above 6.
Dinner buffet is priced at SAR 240 and SAR 120 for children (under 8 not allowed).
Just went there last week after a long time and I still I love Outback. I honestly find the taste of their steaks better than other famous steakhouses around. The famous black bread is still a great treat. =)
