Being a lover of their cakes for years, I was eagerly awaiting the opening of Le Notre Cafe at the junction of Tahlia & Sultan Streets. The restaurant is large and airy with the family seating upstairs. The decor is modern and orange and brown. The tables for two were very small and were a bit close together which meant if people were smoking it blew over you, so we opted for a booth (see complaint below)

My friend & I were there for lunch. There was a big choice of hot & cold appetizers & everything sounded tasty. She ordered the mozarella, grilled eggplant & tomato salad, I the trio of smoked salmon – tartar, smoked & marinated in dill. We shared the fried prawns which were wrapped in light filo pastry served with coriander dipping sauce.

All three were excellent & were presented beautifully. The service was good, which surprised us, as a) we are in Jeddah and b)we there with in the first few days of opening. There is a nice cocktail list, I couldn’t resist having a Shirley Temple (club soda, grenadine and maraschino cherry) which didn’t really fit the sophistication of the meal I ordered but it reminded me of my childhood. My brother used to order them for me at his Yacht Club, so there you are.

For dessert we ordered the mille feuille and a chocolate almond tart. Served with raspberry sauce & creme anglaise & raspberry sorbet respectively. We cut each in half & shared it. Both were delicious. The mille feuille easily serves two – it could be half the size & still be enough. I struggled to finish my half of the mille feuille but I did it!

We will definitely go back to try more things on the menu. It was a little pricey I guess, SR 482.00 including service for 3 appetizers, 2 desserts, 1 cocktail, 1 Perrier, tea and coffee, but very pleasant experience overall.

Our only complaints….The window ledge where we were sitting was dusty and the seat of the booth we were sitting at was full of crumbs, which I had to brush off before I could sit down. The floor under our booth didn’t look too clean either. I hope that means their kitchen is clean!

I would like to say some thing that, cafe LeNotre isn’t a coffee shop, it’s a restaurant, but the french people instead to say restaurant they are using cafe, so, it’s totally a restaurant & not a coffee shop.

I really like the mall’s design. Even the cafe is nicely designed.
Their marron macaroon is yummy, but only the stawberry flavor. An order comes in different flavors, try to order strawberry only.
The juices are ok. I remember one with berries which was good. A better one was with milk(I’m sorry I totally forgot their names).
I had their fettuchini which was fantastic. One of the best, actually.
The dishes ae so expensve which will most likely lessen the frequency of vsiting.

The french ‘elegant cafe’ ambiance is delightfully apparent. But teething troubles concern:
the lack of knowledge regarding the composition of the different cakes. My partner ordered a chocolate cake containing croquant pieces; the attendant behind the cake counter said they didnt produce such a cake; my partner said croquant cake contained pieces of crunchy wafer; the attendant shrugged. We pointed out the chocolate cake that we believed was Croquant and the attendant said: “Oh that contains rice crispies.”
Second problem is lack of timely service; we had to wait for twenty minutes for the waiters to decide who was to service our table, even though we had been provided with menus as we sat down.
Due to the exceptionally high ceiling, lack of curtains or floor covering, it is a very noisy place.
Digression: the Teatro Mall has a beautifully designed atrium, pity we cant be seated by Lenotre in it … it is air-conditioned after all.
