When you want to spend a quiet an hour eating good food, watching the world go by remembering the good old days IL Castello is the place. Over thirty years ago IL Castello opened in Khalid bin Alwaleed Street, once you get there you can still see the small old sign hanging between the bushes It just seems like yesterday!

This restaurant is run by a Saudi owner and Lebanese chef who prides himself on being special by mixing Lebanese food with the Italian.

Once you step inside, the decor sets you back to the 70′s era, the layout is a little unusual, as there are three separate rooms that make up the restaurant.
But it’s also classic and simple. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the lighting, is almost like a cafeteria inside the dining rooms. The interiors weren’t ugly, but an update on the decor might make it just that much more interesting. At the end of your visit though you realize that this man has been doing this for a long time.

Walking in without any reservations, the kind hostess seated us immediately. And once you’re seated, you’re in for a real treat which starts with a basket of freshly baked Lebanese bread with a small plate of traditional (& delicious) hummus.

The standard menu at Il Castello offers a large selection of choices yet the food is simple and well put together,  the flavors unique. I ordered the veal scaloppini. The meat was tender, coated lightly with flour and covered, It was tasty though not necessarily better than any other veal scaloppini I’d had before but still it was good.

The restaurant also offers a tasty traditional thin crusted pizza with fresh toppings. As I lift my first slice of the pizza mozzarella cheese overflows off the edges and to my surprise the crust doesn’t drop down. Unlike many pizzas, it holds that crunch down to the last slice, and it saves you the mess of mozzarella and pizza sauce too.

And now when it comes to desert I’m very serious!! As I’m very specific with the order and particular I strongly believe there is a way to best enjoy them, especially when it comes to Tiramisu! Tiramisu was very authentic Italian flavor soggy and lightly soaked not overly sweet. Just perfect! Finally The service is friendly and authentic, the value for money fair and everyone was extremely happy.
