As we’re relatively new in Jeddah, and are really really into sea food, we weren’t sure of the best places to find some. We’ had heard about the Fish Market from a friend and so decided to give it a try.. what an amazing experience! It’s an open buffet on Fridays (I’m not sure about the rest of the week), but it’s on till around 4 o’clock only, so you have to go shortly after the Juma prayers.
The buffet is amazing! you can choose anything you like from a great selection of fresh fish. There is also a great salad and appetizers bar (which is just mouth watering) full of shrimps, smoked salmon, calamari, and even sushi.. Just after you have finished your appetizers, the fresh fish that you have chosen beforehand would be ready for you to savor. Then just when you think that you are really stuffed, you find out that there’s an open buffet with different platters, Thai, Chinese, Arabian style… with lobsters, shrimps, fish and everything that could have lived under the sea. Also be sure to save some space for dessert as there is a pretty good dessert selection too in the open buffet!! Just a note: Skip breakfast that day.The Staff are extremely polite and attentive and although the prices are relatively expensive; it’s great value for money considering the quality of food on offer.

Visiting The Fish Market is quite the experience, something that should be persevered for the most special of occasions. It is a 5 star restaurant in every sense; the service, the ambience, the taste, and of course the price. My wife and I went there for dinner, and we expected it to be an open buffet, but we were told that they serve open buffet only on lunch. We had the open buffet years ago and we were satisfied, but frankly were not impressed. So we did not mind the “ala carte” this time.
Our host helped us choose from the display of sea fruit aka the Fish Market. We chose Nagel Fish to be grilled fillet style (137 SR), baby squid for fried calamari (15.2 SR), Tiger prawn to be grilled (148.5 SR), and lobster to be cooked Thermidor style (98.8 SR). I won’t bore you more with details of our bill, but suffice to say that with Salad bar (55 SR pp), drinks, rice, sauté vegetable, cooking, and service charges, it amounted to 726.15 SR, which is really steep.
As for the service, it was truly amazing. The restaurant was quite at 7:30 pm when we were there, only the soft music on the background and me and my wife enjoying ourselves, with the waiters come and go to bring food or take away empty places. The table had a gorgeous view of the Red Sea and Jeddah’s famous fountain and it was the most romantic setting I had in Jeddah in a very long time. We started with the Salad bar, which had all sort of salads, dressings, and of course sushi. We sampled different kinds of them and we loved everything. Back in the table, the waiters brought our drinks and a basket of bread and dipping. We enjoyed them all while waiting for our main dishes to come. We did not wait long for our first dish, the fried calamari, which was simple but very tasty. It was not chewy or greasy at all. I would say it is the best I had in Jeddah bar none. Then the waiter brought to the table the grilled tiger prawns, which looked so huge that for a moment I thought they are lobsters. This too tasted very delicious. It was simple unpretentious dish and we really loved it. We waited a while for our next dish, and then the fillet arrived, also grilled with simple seasoning. It was exactly one would want of a grilled fish. The only disappointing thing with that was the Sayadiya rice, which was not good at all. But the sautéed vegetable more than made up for the rice shortcoming. Finally the waiter brought us the lobster, and that was the best of four great dishes. I mean we are glad we saved the best for last, or perhaps that what our cheerful host did. It was delicious beyond expectations, and we just wished we can savor it for even longer. It was creamy, it was tangy, and it made our taste buds dances with excitement. We really enjoyed it tremendously.
Our dinner in the Fish Market was one of the best we had in Jeddah, ever! I realize that it is very expensive for most of the people, myself included, and to be honest, I don’t think I would have went for it without the voucher I won from JeddahFood, which took care of part of my bill. But every once in a while one should treat himself and his loved ones and go for it. And when you go there, trust your experienced host, and this is how you would get the most of your visit. As for myself, I think I am gonna go for it in the future, even though then I will be paying the whole bill by myself, but it is totally worth it.
Top in class
