The food scene is rapidly increasing in Jeddah, and the most dominant of all food themes seems to be steaks and burgers, proving that people here do have a hearty appetite! One of the factors to prove this point is Country Side- a steakhouse that specializes in breakfast and brunch. Located next to a couple of other burger joints on the upmarket Sultan Street, Countryside Jeddah has a very homely entrance, not making you feel like you are entering a fancy restaurant but a cozy, comfortable space.
On arrival, we were directed up the wooden stairs to the family section (an elevator is also available). The whole feel inside is very authentic, with complete wall-to-wall wooden interiors, bear skin on the floor and little plants and cactus here and there. The seating area is fairly spread out, but the lighting is extremely dim, not what you would want in a restaurant to ensure that you can visually enjoy your meal (or your ambience).
The menu here is fairly decent. Country Side is known for its breakfast, which is quite extensive, ranging from a variety of pancakes to omelets and light sandwiches for brunch. They also have a share of salads, appetizers and pastas (the Four Cheese Mac n Cheese stood out, as did the Caesar Salad that Ive heard good things about). Of course as expected, the specialty here is steaks and burgers and theres quite some choice on offer. You can follow up with your choice of sauce and sides. Children visiting the restaurant can also choose from a variety of items on their kids menu, at a fixed price of SAR 22.
Our little group genuinely enjoyed all that we ordered. The on-the-house starter, garlic-flavoured bread with creamy butter was the perfect way to kick off our appetites. I couldnt stop thinking about my Country Fried Chicken entre with Lemon Pepper Sauce and Roast Garlic Mashed Potatoes (a modest SAR 40) even the next day! The New York Strip steak (12 oz serving for SAR 85) and Steak Sandwich (SAR 35) were very satisfying and cooked to perfection, as well. The bread on the sandwich had roasted garlic as well, proving that garlic does seem to be a dominant theme in the Country Side kitchen. When choosing drinks, stick to the safe tried-and-tested fare, as the chocolate milkshake we ordered barely tasted of chocolate, and seemed to be a waste of 18 riyals.
In all, CountrySide Jeddah provided a satisfying gastronomical experience. With a little more attention to the ambience and service, you can be assured to have a good time there.Read more
