So Charlottes opened its doors recently, this new Patisserie is located on Jeddah’s Rawdah Street next to the soon to open Turkish Restaurant Tikke, and just before the Lebanese Vitamin Restaurant before the traffic light heading towers Khalidiya.
The Patisserie offer a huge selection of sweet cakes and desserts, along with the usual savoury bites and nibbles that seem to be all the rage at parties in Jeddah. We dropped by to sample a selection of the cakes, and the results was a mixed bag. Most impressive was the Chocolate Eclair filled with a chocolate cream centre, and the Mississpie Mud Pie Brownie. The Mud Pie Brownie was a soft, gooey affair, with a fantastic moist centre, the brownie likewise perfectly cooked; leagues ahead of the competition. This is impressive considering most brownies in Jeddah are either dolloped in cheap brown icing sugar, or a dry crumbling mess.
The Tiramisu was also very good, its presentation in ‘bar’ form a little unusual, more mousse-like than creamy, but good nonetheless. The peanut butter brownie although a little rich for our liking, was beautifully presented, and no doubt will strike a chord with peanut butter fans. Certainly worth a try if you fall into this category, let us know what you think!
