Tahlia Street, La Promenade One

We enjoyed a delicious feast at Caspers and Gambinis Jeddah on Friday night, for the unfamiliar, this restaurant is located on the corner of Tahlia Street and Hael Street – in La Promenade One. Upon sitting down at one of the sofa tables lining the walls, we were offered a new menu, plus a separate sushi menu which looked enticing, but on this occasion decided to stick to the main menu.

For starters we shared the Parmesan meat balls. Which came with crispy Parmesan tuiles on top, served on a bed of ratatouille / Mediterranean vegetables. The whole dish was very tasty, but the potion was quite large. We were glad we shared!

For our mains I tried the Penne Arabiatta with shrimp (a chicken option is also available). This is quite a simple dish that a lot of restaurants seem to get wrong (too much tomato and no other flavour). But here this was really very good, the house-made pomodoro sauce was full of flavour, a touch of red chili, fresh basil, topped with Grana Padano parmesan cheese, and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. As for the shrimp these were both big and juicy, not the tiny type many restaurants try to fob you off with.

My husband had the Caprese tartine which again was very nice, this reminded us of a Calzone (folded Italian Pizza) but looked more like a burrito; filled with Mozzarella cheese, roasted cherry tomatoes, and a sundried tomato & pesto filling, all served with side salad lightly dressed with balsamic vinegar.

For dessert the Fruity Red Velvet Cake caught our eye, but after a ‘brief debate’ we decided to try the new Crunchy profiteroles, which were amazing. They came with a lovely jug of hot chocolate sauce, which we immediately emptied all over the profiteroles, an indulgent treat to say the least; the profiteroles were just as they should be, crunchy on the outside and creamy in the middle!

Our only comment would be the food was a little on the slow side, but that being said, it was the weekend and the family section was almost full, and on the plus side, the staff were very attentive. Even chasing us out to the car park when we forgot our daughters cardigan. Will definitely be returning soon.. All in all, a lovely meal.
