I enjoyed a pleasant dining experience on Thursday evening at Andalusia, within the Park Hyatt complex, identified by the two rotating lazer lights at the entrance.
Andalusia is a Moroccan restaurant with the food served buffet-style; providing the opportunity try a wide variety of different dishes with the only drawback being the likelihood of over-eating.
Tables are arranged in a series of elegantly proportioned air-conditioned rooms, on several airy patios, and on beautifully manicured lawns overlooking the port and downtown Jeddah.
The restaurant being located south of the Hyatt’s wedding hall there is no vista of the Fountain, however a wide paved walkway extends alongside the sea in front of Andalusia, past the wedding hall and onwards to the hotel itself with lovely views of the Fountain as one ambles along, post-meal.
Shisha is available on the patios and in the garden, but the smell is not too overpowering as the sea breezes waft it away.
The choice of soups were harira and lentil on the night I was there; and the lentil was excellent, with a good, strong flavour of cumin (remember to take a spoon back to the table with you, otherwise you will need to return to the Soup Station for one.)
The two separate salad stations offered a wide variety of interesting salad combinations, different at each station so take a look at both; there were platters with shrimp salad or pickled fish salad and many vegetarian ones: green broadbeans, white beans, lentils, cubed carrots with coriander, mashed pumpkin, potato vinaigrette, cheeses.
There is a large indoor grill station with chefs barbecuing to order; and along one wall a large range of couscous and tajines. Along a different wall is a vast array of traditional Moroccan desserts, including my favourite: thin, glazed pastry crescents stuffed with marzipan; and also a large selection of cakes and puddings and creamy desserts. (Again you need to remember to take back to the table with you a spoon from the Dessert Station.)
The meal ends with the skilful pouring, from great height, of mint tea.
The service is good, efficient and friendly.
Conclusion: A thoroughly enjoyable evening with delicious, interesting food, in lovely surroundings.
The only quibble is the difficulty in negotiating the narrow access roads, with vehicles unsure both of the route and the direction of traffic, requiring the regular requirement to reverse, in the dark, back up winding roads.
We finally made it to Jeddah to sample the beautiful food from Morocco. It was at Andalusia in Park Hyatt Jeddah. We took the advantage of the “Taste of Morocco” promotion. The grandeur and the fantastic ambience of the restaurant kept us in awe from the time we arrived till it was time to go. We arrived at 7pm and as usual we were the first to arrive. (living 90KM north of Jeddah tend to make us arrive at our destination early plus the fact is dinner for most of us is between 7:30pm – 8pm.. anything later than that its supper) It was good timing I must say because we get to taste the food before anyone does ☺. The waiters were friendly and welcoming. It was like walking into someone’s house. What a delight!
The aroma from the food on the buffet table was intoxicating. The layout was easy and pleasing on the eyes. It was tastefully done. We could not wait to taste the food. As soon as we were seated, ordered our drinks and head straight to the buffet line.
Harera soup to start, it was filled with flavor with loads of whole humus and bits of meat in it. The soup is a meal on its own.
There were so many varieties of starters to choose from. I sampled all of them and loving each one of it.
There were lines of Tagines – 2 types of Lamb Tagine, 2 types Chicken Tagines, Fish Tagine, Prawn Tagine, Vegetable Tagine and of course the infamous Couscous. On the warmer there were 2 roasted ducks. The Chef sliced 3 pieces of duck meat and drizzle it with this beautiful dressings consists of (according to the Chef) lemon juice, the juice of the roast duck, celery and something else (I cant remember)
Everything was fantastic right down from the restaurant to the food.
I recommend this restaurant anytime and will definitely come back to sample the Spanish cuisine.
When i first walked in, i could feel the Moroccan vibe, its such a beautiful place i really felt like i was in another world.
The atmosphere was nice, the food was tasty, definitely an experience! and the service was alright. but as an overall it was well it. will definitely go again, given the opportunity.
We recently had dinner at this restaurant, and I highly recommend it. It’s a beautiful ambiance, with spectacular service, and great food! The live grill station was my favorite (try the beef steak), and the dessert buffet is excellent. There were so many choices in the buffet that it’s bound to please!
Great ambience, beautiful view, delicious food, reasonable prices and amazing service. It is a must try restaurant!
I’ve been there. It was very quiet. It was a Sunday night. I think it’s good for families n friends, suits couples more I think with its atmosphere of low lights n outdoor seatings with a view of the beach.
They served Moroccan food which I’m not a fan of. My husband loved the buffet. I enjoyed the salad bar & the desserts very much.
I forgot to mention that I loved their drinks as well. Their lemon with mint & watermelon with rose water. Didn’t like their champagne though. And from the salads, the beets were my favorite!

After the FoodCritic’s high praise for Andalusia, I could not set aside a visit to Andalusia for long, so last Thursday I took the wife and paid them a visit. Since it is only open for dinner, we decided to make a reservation for an outdoor table, so we can enjoy a sea view dinner. We arrived at 7 pm, and we navigated our way inside the Park Hyatt resort until we found the restaurant. Our first impression was positive, as the place looked fantastic from the outside and from the inside. The waiter welcomed us and after we were seated, he directed us to the buffet inside and took our drinks order.
It was not for long before we walked toward the buffet, and it was extensive and every thing looked marvelous. Between soup, appetizers, main courses and desserts, we loved and enjoyed everything we tried. The paella for instance was amazing, and so was the couscous and all the different Tagines. The waiter also brought us a plate of variety of barbequed meats including beef, lamb, chicken, liver, and seafood, and they were perfectly done. The desserts were also as good as FC described them, and we were especially keen on the Qashtaliah.
After that big meal, our cheerful waiter asked us if we wanted green tea, so of course we said yes. Not long after, a traditional Moroccan tea pot and cups arrived, and we enjoyed some good Moroccan tea. We sat for awhile enjoying the view and the little breeze there was that evening, it was a really nice time. After awhile we paid our bill (350 SR for the meal and the tea), which was a good price for the food and the extraordinary service we got there.
I don’t think visiting Andalusia will be something that I will do every month or so, but a visit once or twice a year is justified, and when I think about the fine dinning options that Jeddah offers, I would rank Andalusia among the top in that list. As for all food lovers out there, we recommend that you give it a try, just make sure you go there with an empty stomach and a big appetite.
I thoroughly enjoyed the meal I had here last week with my wife, the open buffet works well in the open plan restaurant, and its nice to be able to see the chefs at work grilling all the fresh seafood.
Moorish food doesn’t come better than this in Jeddah, all the staff appeared to be Moroccan, and everything from the Tagine dishes, to the Moroccan teapots and glasses were apparently imported from the Maghrib.
We sat outside in front of the crisp green lawns and small rocky beach with a fantastic view of the sea, and in the distance – Jeddah’s brightly lit sea-port.
As for the food, the buffet meant we got to try a bit of everything. I tried a number of the couscous and Morroccan tagine dishes, the seagood paella was particularly good, as was all the grilled seafood, the grilled calamari was also perfectly cooked.
The Passion Fruit Mahalabia (almost like a panna cotta here) also made an impression, couldn’t get enough of the dessert, (seriously its served in a tiny little pot!).
All in all an enjoyable meal with atmosphere to rival the best of Jeddah’s corniche fronted restaurants.
Prices are reasonable considering it was an all you can eat buffet/venue. With service this came to 150 SR per person.
Tried it before the official openning.. Great food, great veiw, great ambience!
