Palm Garden - Al Nakheel Jeddah

With the sea breeze and a traditional feel, Montazah Al Nakheel (Palm Gardens) is one of the most popular out door traditional restaurants in Jeddah City and a beautiful place to take work colleagues or tourists to. It is located near the Corniche so it’s a nice drive getting there. Al Nakheel serve up all kinds of different appetizers, main courses, Mezza, drinks, and even Shisha if you fancy a puff. The restaurant attracts a large number of families and large groups, and is a great place to explore the wonderful arabic cuisine Jeddah has to offer, while you sit back, relax and listen to the classical arabic background music by artists such as Om-Kalthoom, Abdulahaleem, Fairooz, and others.

A great place to go if you want to take some time off, relax and just escape for a few hours, the service could be improved but other than that, it is a personal favourite of mine, which I miss very much when I am abroad. I advise anyone who has not been there to check it out, it will be a wonderful experience, no doubt!

I don’t understand the reasons behind the popularity of this place. It mainly caters for a clientele of older age with certain smoking, and eating habits.
With very few evenings in Jeddah with cool breeze, it is hard to believe that spending an evening at alnakheel would be enjoyable.
Food and service is mediocre however, the torture experience I had was spending the night escaping the astray cats attacking our table (yes I don’t feel comfortable being surrounded by street cats who jump all over the place) and the fact that I left marked by several mosquito bites n my skin did not make me wanna pass by the street where this place is located.
Terrible experience for me and I can not understand people who spend night after night at this place.

4 of us decided that we needed some local flavor to soothe our systems and the unanimous choice was Montazah Al Nakheel (Palm gardens) located along the Jeddah cornice.

We were introduced to this place by our Saudi friends in Jeddah, a wonderful couple who appreciate the finer things in life. From the first time we were there, we have been going there at least once every fortnight. Nakheel is basically an outdoor restaurant and a huge one at that. Going by the crowds that gather here every evening, I presume that this is indeed one of the most popular joints in and around this area.

The food they serve is predominantly local, with Lebanese cusine also sharing a fair part of the menu. There is a sparkling of pizzas and pastas on the menu but honestly we have never felt the need to try this out here. Our order here is mostly always the same. Foul Hijazi (Chick peas ground to a paste form which is from the hijaz region of the kingdom), Moutabbak (something like a stuffed pizza) which is usually made up of finely chopped vegetables, egg and meat. On our request, they make it without the egg and meat and substitute this by more of the veggies. This time around, since we had company, they did try the one with meat and absolutely loved it. We also ordered the moutabbak with the banana and cheese filling but that did not add to my fav food list. Mahmara (A tomato and nuts paste) but the Mahmara at Belajio resort is much better in taste and texture. On every table you can see people smoking shisha and they make it pretty well here. The foul hijazi is the dish that makes me want to come to this place again and again. A testimony to the fact that simple things can be wonderful and tasty as well.

The seating is so comfortable here that you could spend hours on the high rise majlis or the low sofas that adorn the whole complex. You could easily sit upto 2-3 hours here without a worry of the world. We have been told that weekends are usually very crowded and it is better to have a reservation before going. Weekdays, which is when we usually go is fine if you reach here by around 8.00pm. The place gets full here quickly around 9.30 pm.

So if you have guests or have some colleagues visiting from other parts of the world, this would be a perfect place to host them for some good local flavor and some interesting conversation.

    Al-Nakheel,(Family section)

It used to be one of Jeddah corniche landmarks, with hospitality, venue, food quality and freindly service,

Few years back I remember it was very difficult to find a spot to sit at Nakheel,

but unfortunately not anymore, the place lost alot of it’s magic, with less quality in service, venue and food,

worse than that the whole place was decorated with a huge tent (warehouses style) that makes you feel that you are having your dinner at one of those big warehouse hangers, what a shame,

some of the service team members are not really freindly mainly the arabs, wiht plenty of ignoring to guest requests,

although my bad reputation of al Nakheel family section, I still go to the single section which still got its touch and fine venue
