Casper and Gambinis

One of Jeddahs most popular restaurants attracts a hip young crowd, along with families and businessmen alike who seem to have taken a liking to the free WiFi service the restaurant offers all customers.

Now in its fourth year, the restaurant continues to draw regular crowds who are obviously not swayed by the latest fads that pops up on the scene in Jeddah. It’s easy to see why — attention to detail in design and cooking is evident everywhere. The singles bar area has low-slung leather couches and small tables for intimate but relaxed dining. While the family section is somewhat lighter with smart clean cut wooden tables, comfy chairs and mellow background music. This redbrick restaurant definitely has a modern feel to it, Modern European favourites fill the menu with dishes you really want to eat. Large portions, & great desserts, try the tiramisu!

Jeddahfood.com user ‘Adda’ sends us this latest review:

I’ve been eating at Casper and Gambini’s for years now and I must say it has been the most consistent food experiences I’ve had in Jeddah.

I find their menu so comprehensive and the ingredients they use are always fresh and of high quality. The portions are most generous – so much so that you always end up with doggy bags for later! At the restaurant, customers are always greeted, shown to their seats and served with a basket of various freshly baked breads and dip such as tapenade, sour cream and olive oil or other interesting mixes. The service is prompt and the food is served at its right temperature.

The menu includes a large variety of salads (Santa Fe and Cobb are my favourites), main meals served with fresh steamed vegetables often with an acompanying sauce including roast potatoes (Chicken under a brick is a 100% must-try)! If you’re into Italian food then their pasta dishes are also great – they are served in generous bowls and clearly freshly made. Their pizzas are Italian style; I recently tried the Seafood and was so pleasantly surprised when I was served with a pizza covered in REAl fresh seafood – like large mussels still in their shells and prawns, calamari and good chunks of fish. It made such a change from the usual tinned toppings you get mostly everywhere.

Desserts are almost sinful! For Berries-lovers, the cheesecake has to be the best in town. The chocolate fondant fares just as good and is served warm with vanilla ice-cream and sprinkled with cocoa powder and a chocolate coulis. The experience is irrestible even for those who’re not that into chocolate; you’ll find them tucking in!

Another reason why I feel C&G’s is my all-time favourite is that the service and the food are just as good when used as a delivery service. I have ordered from my work place which is close-by and from my home which is quite a bit further and yet they have always managed to keep to their time (approximately 45mins) and their food standards.

When at work, one of my favourites is the executive lunchbox. Great value for money – for 39SR, you get half a sandwich of your choice (in freshly baked bread), half a salad of your choice, a dessert and a juice. I usually order a smoke salmon sandwich in brown baguette, a Santa Fe or Caesar salad, a fresh fruit salad and a fruit juice. All is delivered in a cardboard box with handly with an envelop which contains your cutlery, salt/pepper, tissue, toothpich and a mint sweet or gum!! What a great deal and believe me, it fills you up for the entire day all the while making you feel as though you’ve had a great healthy meal! I sometime have some of their soups, the broccoli, seafood chowder and tomato and basil are absolute must try’s! Always served with freshly baked olive bread – a real yummy!

Well, I could keep going on and on about this restaurant because I really feel it’s the only one I been going to for so long and not had a bad experience with. I’m afraid I can’t say the same with most of the others – especially those of the same price range. So if you have a varied group of friends who are difficult to all please at once – then look no further – Caspers is your place; an reliable and safe bet!
