Ruby Tuesday

Ruby Tuesday Solidaire Jeddah

Ramadan at Ruby Tuesday Jeddah

When Jeddah Food heard that Ruby Tuesday recently had a reshuffle and was under new management and with a new menu. We thought it was about time to give this American diner a look, it was also after 9pm on a Tuesday! (how very appropriate we thought).

Located on Andalus Street right across from TGI Fridays, most will agree that Ruby Tuesdays location is spot on. Andalus Street is one of the main restaurant streets in town, with the likes of Chillis, Senses, Fudruckers, Caspers & Applebees all close by. With such fierce competition, location is no longer enough to draw in the crowds, the food has to be good, or people soon lose interest, fortunately for us, at Ruby Tuesdays the food we tried was very good.

The interior wouldn’t look out of place in a traditional diner in New York or London, it reminds me of the old tv show ‘Cheers’, with the low hung tinted floral glass lamp shades along with American sport memorabilia lining the walls.

On arrival we were greeted by a waiter who was ‘all smiles’, introducing himself and showing us to our table. The service was fast and the waiter very attentive, i think the lack of many other diners that evening made this all the more apparent.

To drink I ordered the fresh lemonade, with mint, sharp yet refreshing, almost perfect. It was nice to see that at Tuesdays you’re given the options for pretty much everything, with or without mint, ice (either crushed or standard), in fact throughout the meal i was confounded by the number of options actually available for each dish.

I ordered ‘Thai Phoon’ to start, and creative name aside, it was basically a sweet and sour tempura prawn starter, eight prawns served on a bed of lettuce covered in sauce. I might have preferred to add the sauce myself, but as it happens, they were pretty good as is, and before we had even had a chance to finish them, our Rib Eye steaks had arrived.

The Steaks at Tuesdays are something of a specialty, there’s Tenderloin, Rib Eye, New York strip, Fillet Mignon, the list goes on… more steaks than you can shake a stick at! Each can be cooked according to ones tastes, and served with the sauce of your choice. I opted for a medium rare Ribeye steak with mushroom sauce, which was recommended by the waiter. I was pleasantly surprised not only with the quality of the steaks (All US beef) but the size and thickness were just right. Seasoned with pepper the Ribeye was juicy, tender and cooked perfectly.

The side vegetables were also impressive, steamed and full of colour. Side potatoes were available as either a jacket potatoe, mash potatoe, or fries. The mash was good, flavoured with herbs, but a little more traditional and as such slightly lumpy.

To finish we ordered the some green tea, and cheesecake; which was served with fresh strawberry’s and strawberry sauce. The Cheesecake was smooth, light, and a pleasure to eat. Not fluffy, dry, or crumbly like many others served in town. It was an excellent finish to an enjoyable evening.

Total for two people, with two drinks, sharing one starter and one dessert came to around 275 SR. (This included two steaks at 78 SR each.)

Ruby Tuesdays is by no means inexpensive, the food is good, and you get what you pay for, considering the generous helpings, quality of food and atmosphere, it is definitely worth a look.
