Samadi is a great little Middle Eastern Bakery tucked between Goodies and the Ligne Roset furniture store on Rawdah Street. Just before you come to Big Bite and the Bamboo Lobster Restaurant.

They specialize in Arabic pastries, sweets and cakes, and are one of the better bakeries in town. Some of the Sweets from SamadiIn Ramadan their sweets are increasingly popular after Iftar as they provide the much needed release of energy after breaking your fast. A typical family will usually stock up on an array of sweets which they will continue to feast on through the night up to Suhour.

Some of the sweets they make fresh each day are Baklawa, Basbousah, Ma’mool, and Kunafa, (although there are many more) They also do a great Banana Kunafa which is one of my personal favourites as is the date Ma’mool. Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the sweets.

When Jeddah Food visited these were their prices at time of printing:

  • 20 riyals for half kilo of Basbousah
  • 80 riyals for large plate of baklawa
  • 60 riyals for large plate of Mamool
  • 35 riyals for Half cake of banana kunafa

Basbousa
For the unfamiliar

  • Basbousa is Semolina cake made with almonds, and soaked in syrup.
  • Maamool tiny butter like cakes filled with either walnuts, pistachios or date and often have added rose water.
  • Baklava is a rich, sweet pastry featured in many cuisines of the former Ottoman (Turkey) and Iranian countries. Made of layers of filo pastry, filled with chopped walnuts or pistachios, sweetened with syrup or honey
  • Kunafeh is a favourite arabic dessert said to originate in Nablus. It is made of soft white cheesy goodness topped with crispy orange baked semolina. usually comes as a half inch thick square.
